Wood dust is a dry and extremely fine-grained material that is produced as a by-product during mechanical processing in woodworking facilities. True to its name, wood dust consists of microscopic wood particles, whose grain size is usually less than one millimetre.

As a renewable energy source, wood dust makes a valuable contribution to sustainable energy supply. It combines ecological benefits with practical applicability, thus providing a low-fossil alternative to conventional fuels.

Characteristics

Wood dust is characterised by its high calorific value, fine, uniform particle structure, low moisture content as well as low ash and chlorine levels. These physical properties turn it into an ideal energy source. The fine dust is free-flowing, easy to dose accurately, and meets all requirements for clean, stable, and low-emission thermal utilisation.

Origin

Wood dust is generated during the industrial processing of wood-based materials, for example in furniture manufacturing, as well as during cutting, sanding, and milling in sawmills. The Brüning Group bundles these material flows using intelligent disposal concepts and recycles them for energy recovery.

Application

As a biogenic fuel, wood dust is extremely versatile – it can be used in both traditional biomass plants and industrial combustion systems. Wood dust is an efficient and reliable substitute for fossil fuels such as lignite dust. This enables a switch to renewable energy sources that is both ecologically and economically sensible.
