Chicken manure is generated as a by-product of poultry farming in broiler production facilities. It consists of the animals’ excrement combined with the bedding material used and is collected after the birds have been removed from the houses before being prepared for further utilisation.
Chicken manure is considered a particularly high-quality poultry manure and is a sought-after input material for biogas plants. When used in biogas production, chicken manure offers high gas yield potential and stable process parameters. The EU RED-compliant residual material provides valuable plant nutrients, with guideline values of 20 to 25 kilograms of nitrogen, 15 to 20 kilograms of phosphate and 15 to 20 kilograms of potassium per tonne of fresh matter, as well as additional quantities of calcium and magnesium. The average biogas yield of chicken manure is approximately 230 m³ per tonne.
Chicken manure is primarily used in biogas plants for the production of renewable energy. In addition, it is suitable for composting and for application on agricultural land as an organic fertiliser. Thanks to its versatile applications, chicken manure contributes to the efficient and sustainable utilisation of organic residual materials.
