The hygiene bedding made from fine shavings – also known as sawdust – and a lime mixture has been developed to meet the high standards of modern dairy farms. It combines the latest scientific findings in animal hygiene and dermatology with premium raw materials in an innovative sawdust product. The bedding is based on finely grained, carefully selected softwood shavings, coated with a special lime-based biocide. This treatment ensures effective and sustainable reduction of germs in the cowshed. Thehigh pH of the fine-shavings bedding significantly reduces environmental pathogens such as Klebsiella, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus uberis and Staphylococcus aureus in the cowshed. This keeps the cows’ lying areas hygienic, reduces fly infestations and improves the overall barn climate. The consistent reduction of germs leads to lower somatic cell counts in the milk – a key benefit for mastitis prevention. At the same time, milk yield increases. The application of our hygiene bedding for cows is as efficient as it is simple. For optimal results, we recommend spreading the lime–shavings mixture in the cows’ lying areas once or twice daily. This ensures consistently high hygiene and creates ideal conditions for healthy, relaxed dairy cows.
The lime straw mixture is based on shredded, natural straw with a fibre length of approximately three to five centimetres, which is blended with high-quality lime. The combination of structure-providing plant material and alkaline lime creates a highly effective, field-tested bedding that is hygienic while also supporting the comfort of your cows.
Our lime straw bedding is characterised by a moisture content of around 20 per cent and a light colour. It provides dry, well-ventilated lying areas and supports barn hygiene through the mildly alkaline effect of the included lime. On request, the product is available with different lime concentrations to meet the specific requirements of your farm.
The lime straw mixture is primarily used in dairy farming as a hygienic bedding. It is ideal for use in cows’ cubicles, providing clean, dry and comfortable lying areas. We recommend spreading the hygiene bedding in these areas once or twice daily. The product is delivered in bulk.
