SPRING AWAKENING: IT’S TIME FOR BARK MULCH!

Spring is in the air: the days are getting longer, the birds are singing their songs and the first delicate buds are sprouting from the earth. Nature is awakening from its winter sleep and preparing for the great blooming. It’s time to follow suit, because with each new day, the gardening season of 2025 draws closer. Everything starts to grow – including anticipation! That’s why now is the perfect time to prepare gardens, parks, and outdoor areas for spring. You can create the best conditions for this with high-quality bark mulch – but why, exactly?

WHY BARK MULCH?

With its numerous advantages for flora and fauna, bark mulch is an indispensable all-rounder for gardening and landscaping. Even a five to ten centimetre layer of bark mulch effectively protects the soil from drying out and temperature fluctuations by storing moisture and creating a balanced microclimate. This provides optimal conditions for microorganisms and microbes that make the soil even more fertile. In principle, bark mulch contributes to long-term soil fertility: its decomposition produces valuable humus, which releases nutrients as a sustainable fertiliser and improves the soil structure. At the same time, mulch suppresses weed growth and thus reduces the need for maintenance – ideal for all green spaces that visually benefit from bark mulch in every respect.

BARK MULCH FOR EVERY DEMAND

One thing is certain: bark mulch is a must for natural landscaping – however, depending on the project, the requirements differ. That is why we offer the material in different grain sizes. Fine grains, for example from 00 to 20 millimetres or 05 to 30 millimetres, are suitable for planters and flower boxes. Medium grains from 00 to 40 millimetres or 10 to 40 millimetres are perfect for smaller flowerbeds, rock gardens, borders, and other smaller areas. Coarse grains of up to 80 millimetres are mainly used for covering large areas.

In addition to the size, the type of wood also comes into play: pine bark impresses with its reddish-brown colour, which forms an appealing contrast to green leaves and light-coloured floor coverings. The high amount of resin and the rough surface make it particularly weather-resistant and water-repellent. Spruce mulch is darker, thinner and more fibrous. High-quality bark from Mediterranean stone pines adds visual highlights and is therefore used for decorative purposes, for example at exhibition stands or in conservatories.
