GREATER INDEPENDENCE THROUGH RENEWABLE ENERGY FROM BIOMASS

In times of global uncertainty, as currently being felt due to the Iran conflict, the issue of energy independence is taking center stage more than ever. Rising oil and gas prices, as well as dependence on imports of fossil fuels, highlight just how vulnerable our energy supply is. Biomass combined heat and power plants and biogas plants offer a stable alternative by utilising locally available resources.

WOOD, WASTE WOOD AND RESIDUAL MATERIALS IN THE ENERGY MIX

Wood from sustainably managed forests and landscape maintenance can be efficiently converted into heat and electricity in biomass combined heat and power plants, thereby replacing fossil fuels. Waste wood also contributes to this: as a secondary raw material, it can be used for energy purposes if it is no longer suitable for material recycling, thus completing the portfolio of sustainable biomass fuels. In addition, agricultural residues such as slurry, plant residues, or manure generate renewable energy in biogas plants whilst simultaneously providing valuable nutrients for agriculture. Both technologies strengthen the regional circular economy, reduce dependence on fossil resources, and create local added value as well as jobs.

“Especially in the current geopolitical situation, it is crucial to rely on domestic energy sources,” explains Christian Kuntze, COO for the Virgin Wood division at Brüning Group. “Biomass enables stable energy prices, security of supply, and the sustainable use of regional resources – regardless of crises in other parts of the world. That is why we support our partners in finding the right fuels for their plants and in sourcing them reliably in the long term.”

“Over the past five years, we have already supported a large number of customers in switching from fossil fuels to biogenic fuels, such as waste wood, and have signed corresponding supply contracts. Customer feedback has been very positive. Above all, the reliability of supply is highly valued,” adds Matthias Warnke, COO for the Recycling & Waste division.

PARTNER FOR SECURE RAW MATERIAL SUPPLY

Guided by this principle, the Brüning Group ensures a reliable supply of raw materials: from fresh wood and waste wood to agricultural residues. With this broad range, the company supports energy suppliers, plant operators, and municipalities in running power plants efficiently and sustainably. In-house logistics solutions and a strong network ensure a continuous flow of materials and long-term security of supply, even in volatile markets.

The transition to biomass and other renewable energies is therefore not only a contribution to climate protection, but also a strategic step towards strengthening national energy supply. By utilising wood, waste wood, and agricultural residues, local authorities, enterprises, and farmers actively contribute to energy autonomy while strengthening the regional economy. Biomass is thus more than just a renewable energy source: it is a cornerstone for security, stability, and sustainability in uncertain times.
