From the biogas plant: dried or separated
Origin
Dried digestate originates from biogas plants and is a by-product of biogas and biomethane production. Organic input materials are fermented for this purpose. Dried digestate can therefore consist of materials such as maize, cereals, manure, slurry or food waste. After the fermentation process of these materials, the digestate remains and is further processed through drying, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.
Separated digestates are specifically used in agriculture as organic fertilisers. Thanks to their soil-improving properties, separated digestates are ideally suited for supplying agricultural land with nutrients and supporting a stable soil structure over the long term.
Characteristics
Dried digestate is RED II compliant and has a low water content of around 5 to 10%. It has a calorific value of 14 to 15 MJ/kg dry matter and a gross calorific value of 17 to 18 MJ/kg. It also contains valuable plant nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphate, potassium, calcium and magnesium, making it suitable for versatile use in both energy production and agriculture.
Separated digestates are characterised by their high quality, high nutrient density and attractive cost-effectiveness. Thanks to their good spreading properties, they can be efficiently applied to agricultural land and support long-term soil fertility and humus formation. Nutrient contents are approximately 5 to 10 kg of nitrogen, phosphate and potassium as well as 3 to 5 kg of calcium and magnesium per tonne of fresh matter.
Use
The material has a wide range of applications in agriculture. Dried digestates are primarily used as fertilisers to supply nutrients to agricultural land. In addition, they can be used as bedding material, as part of substrate mixtures or for thermal utilisation. Their flexible application makes them a valuable component of sustainable material cycles.
