With the arrival of the first roundwood vessel on 18 October at the port of Bremen, the Brüning Group is marking the launch of a new timber supply from Ireland: the delivery of industrial roundwood establishes a long-term supply line in international timber trade, set to play a central role for the European pulp industry.
NEW SUPPLY CHAIN FOR THE PULP INDUSTRY
The journey to the first shipment was complex: numerous small departure ports in Ireland, selecting a suitable vessel, and organising a smooth handling process in Bremen all posed challenges for the team. The close cooperation of all parties, decisive action, and the courage to rethink established processes ultimately led to a breakthrough. The first shipment is therefore not only an operational success, but also a testament to the high performance of everyone involved.
“Setting up a supply chain is challenging and demands both energy and patience. Logistical structures do not arise by themselves. They are the result of hard work and close coordination among the whole team,” explains Hans Friemel, Head of the Unit Roundwood. “All the more reason for us to appreciate the recognition we receive from our partners.” Especially in an industry where logistical processes are often taken for granted, this project impressively demonstrates the precision, experience, and perseverance required for smooth operations.
STRATEGIC FOUNDATION FOR 2026
Our experience shows that international raw material flows can be established and operated even under demanding conditions when expertise is combined with collaborative partnership. The successful launch of the timber flow creates a solid foundation for the security of supply for our customers and for the European market as a whole, while simultaneously opening up new prospects for the strategic expansion of roundwood sales.
