BORÅS ENERGI OCH MILJÖ VISITS THE BRÜNING GROUP

On the 21st of May 2025, the Brüning Group had the pleasure of welcoming a very special guest: Borås Energi och Miljö, the municipal energy and environmental company from Sweden, presented one of Scandinavia’s most exciting energy projects, the Energy & Environment Centre Sobacken, at our Campus.

SOBACKEN – A FLAGSHIP PROJECT FOR SUSTAINABLE ENERGY SUPPLY

Located just one kilometre outside the city of Borås, Sobacken combines state-of-the-art technologies for electricity, heat, and biogas generation with innovative recycling and environmental solutions. At the heart of the project is the intelligent use of biogenic fuels such as waste wood and sewage sludge, but also commercial waste – internationally known as RDF. The latter is supplied to Sweden by the Brüning Group. A total of 115,000 tonnes of material are thermally recovered each year. With an overall efficiency of over 90 per cent and an integrated battery storage system to support grid stability, the facility is technologically cutting-edge. And rightly so, because Borås has ambitious goals. The city aims to become Sweden’s most sustainable recycling city, investing in circular economy, new technologies, and modern infrastructure.

WORKING TOGETHER FOR GREEN ENERGY

A key component of the fuel supply is the Brüning Group. Alongside high-quality fuels, we primarily provide trust. “Trust is the most important element for a strong business relationship,” states Peter Rosén, Fuel Manager at Borås Energi och Miljö, who led the presentation. Our reliability, commitment to quality and innovative spirit make us the company’s preferred supplier. However, we don’t see ourselves solely as a supplier, but as an active contributor. Together, we develop the optimal fuel blend – currently, for instance, planning to use cashew nut shells as a fuel additive. In a dynamic energy market, flexible, needs-based fuel supply is a decisive factor for success. We are therefore delighted to support Borås as part of a cross-border network working on future-proof energy solutions. Tobias Markgård, Business Development Manager Sweden at the Brüning Group, shares: “I live in Borås myself and can follow the work Borås Energi does up close and it is truly impressive. To be able to develop the collaboration forward together with Peter Rosén and his team feels very exciting.”

DELIVERING TOMORROW

The fact that Borås Energi och Miljö sees the Brüning Group as a reliable, solution-oriented partner with a vision confirms our mission to shape the future of bioenergy across Europe – with expertise, innovation, and team spirit. The work we do in Sobacken is a prime example of how we meet complex demands with tailored fuel solutions. The visit from Sweden clearly demonstrated how international cooperation works in practice – built on trust and the courage to move forward together. “Borås Energi strives to work with the best suppliers. Our goal is to be the best possible partner for our customers. This dialogue makes us both stronger because we’re open to learning from one another and breaking new ground,”
summarises Perry Mayr, Director Business Development Scandinavia at the Brüning Group. We warmly thank our guests for the inspiring exchange and look forward to many more joint steps towards a greener energy future.
