Almost every industry is currently subject to strong fluctuations, as is well known. The Brüning Group is of course all the more aware of this because we are active in many different industries and sectors. The interplay of different factors leads to more and more new challenges that have to be overcome. Our product area “bark” is also keeping our employees pretty busy at the moment. In this area, just like everywhere else, inflation and the energy crisis are having their effects. What was still relatively predictable in the last few years, e.g. consumer behaviour, can now only be predicted to a limited extent. But other factors, such as the slowdown in the construction boom, are also leading to a reduction in production in sawmills, which in turn has a huge impact on the availability of raw materials.
This unstable market situation obviously makes planning more difficult. The season can be roughly estimated – demand will probably increase with the arrival of spring and the start of the gardening and planting season – but we have already noticed that many of our business partners would rather prefer to plan their quantities carefully and at short notice. This is, of course, another challenge for the staff in our bark unit.
It is therefore very important for us to be in close contact with our customers and suppliers. Since the demand for bark is primarily regional, it is essential to keep a close eye on the regional market situation as well as on the supply and demand. For this reason, we are on the road a lot, not only in Germany, but also in neighbouring countries such as Poland or Austria, in order to compensate for regional fluctuations on a supra-regional basis. On site, we can get a better overview and talk to our business partners personally in order to carefully elicit their requirements and needs. This ultimately enables us to react quickly and to reliably offer the best service despite volatile markets.
