Waste Wood and Green Wood – New Port, Together on Course

As part of the ongoing internationalisation of the Brüning | Group and the internationalisation of the biomass and waste wood market, we decided to take new logistical paths. In addition to trucks and railways, transport by ship was the obvious choice to handle the large quantities of material that were produced in many places in Germany due to the continuing calamities such as drought and bark beetle infestation, which made new sales channels inevitable. The increasingly long transport distances were another reason why we decided to use sea transport.

In order to continue to meet the logistical requirements in the best possible way, we have now rented a new port area at Terminal 4 of Rhenus Weserport in Bremen. We deliver almost 2000 tons of material there every week. Rhenus Weserport is responsible for receiving and weighing the material, as well as handling and loading the ships.

A good decision. Meanwhile we export a total quantity of 50.000 to p. a. green wood and waste wood to the UK and Scandinavia. The fresh wood currently consists of wood chips from sustainable forestry and material from landscape conservation. We also transport industrial wood from the bark beetle regions of Germany to Weserport, process it on site and then ship it. The special feature of the new terminal is that it is the first joint port for green wood and waste wood. This allows us to bundle the material flows, which in turn allows us to increase the total quantity – an absolute win-win situation for us.
