Non-Wood-Waste becomes Waste-to-Energy

Non-Wood-Waste – introduced a few years ago as a service product – continues to develop and becomes “Waste-to-Energy (WTE)“. This term is also already established in the waste business. In the context of biomass trading, the service department has been installed as a reactive service for our biomass customers. It covered all waste products that did not constitute biomass and did not fall under the category of wood, ergo “non-wood”, and hence the name “Non-Wood-Waste”.

Within a short period of time, we recorded rapid growth in this segment on the national market and within a few years we had an independent network. Non-Wood-Waste had become a firm pillar of the Brüning | Group and the shadowy existence as a service department was over. The increasing internationalization of the waste market now leads to a renaming and reorientation. The idea is to transfer this successful business model to the international market.

For us, the German waste market continues to be the most important market, as it represents the largest market in Europe. “We can look back on almost 30 years of network activity in the field of biomass and waste,” explains Philipp Häberle, responsible for national sales, “This is the biggest selling point for customers abroad, especially when it comes to supply security. There is also a high degree of synergy effects with the other units of the Brüning | Group”.

With Waste-to-Energy we now want to conquer the international market at a fast pace. Already some time ago we opened our first foreign office in Copenhagen in the course of our internationalisation. Norman Behrens, responsible for international sales, explains: “Due to the progressive implementation of the landfill ban in Europe, the waste markets are in a state of considerable movement. In some cases, there are significant differences between recycling capacity and waste volumes, resulting in a significant increase in international waste flows between countries”. The high waste management requirements (Basel Convention) also offer great potential for services, which we would like to exploit. Major projects. However, we are certain that with Waste-to-Energy we have taken exactly the right direction and set the course for the future.
