GROWING…TOGETHER

BRÜNING GROUP TAKES OVER INTERFORST GMBH

The ink is already dry – with the signing of the contract on December 19th, Interforst GmbH, based in Kirchzell, belongs to the Brüning Group.1

Thus, another company is part of our group and forms a mosaic stone in our overall structure. The family business, which is now active in the areas of forest marketing, district management, transport logistics and forest services and is managed by Karlheinz Hess in the third generation, originated in 1965 with its foundation as a “cone picking business”. In the course of time, other services in the forestry sector were added, such as log trading in the 1990s. The Interforst GmbH is still rooted in the largest forest area Odenwald-Spessart-Taunus, with an activity focus on the southern German region. As a trading and service company, it has taken over the forest management and forestry of private and communal forests. The range of services now covers the entire forestry value chain, from planting and maintenance to timber harvesting. Approximately 150,000 solid cubic metres are moved annually from contract harvesting and trade. The main focus is on supplying roundwood to sawmills, wood-based material plants, pulp manufacturers as well as heating and wood-fired power plants throughout Germany.

Managing Director Karlheinz Hess has now decided to sell Interforst GmbH in preparation for his retirement. However, he will remain with the company in his function for at least another year. He will accompany this handover phase with his expertise and network.

The Brüning Group is taking over the location in Kirchzell unchanged. The company will continue to trade under the name Interforst GmbH and, of course, we will take over the entire experienced team of 12 employees. Max Rehder, head of our roundwood unit, will act as the connecting link. Together with Karlheinz Hess and his team, he will lead the integration of Interforst GmbH into the Brüning Group.

The takeover was initiated by Hans Friemel, who is responsible for the business development of the roundwood unit, and the acquisition process was accompanied by him during the past months. With this takeover, we would like to strengthen our activities in the roundwood sector and enter deeper into the value chain with the forestry service and forestry management part of the company. This step will enable us to offer our customers in sawmill, wood-based materials and pulp industries even more reliability, security and flexibility in the supply of roundwood in the future. In addition, the combination of Interforst GmbH and Brüning Group will enable us to offer forest owners and timber marketers an even more comprehensive full-service package. With our existing network in the biomass sector, especially fresh wood, bark and sawmill residues, this creates a diverse range of supply and disposal services.

We are already looking forward to the future together and the close cooperation!
