Commercial and industrial waste

Thermal utilization as an alternative to landfill for hazardous waste

Commercial and industrial waste includes production-related waste generated in the commerce, industry and services sectors. This frequently involves hazardous waste, which can only be stored at special hazardous waste landfills or disposed of by a special incinerator.

Origin

From construction
Construction waste, demolition waste and excavated earth constitute a large proportion of industrial waste.

Plastic packaging
Hospital waste and packaging materials made of plastic also belong to this category.

Chemical components
But also waste from the mining, chemical and building materials industries can be considered industrial waste.

Use

Recycling
The first attempt is to recycle industrial waste in order to preserve the materials cycle.

Return to the materials cycle
Many materials from the chemical or building materials industry are successfully reintroduced back into the materials cycle.

Thermal utilization
Non-recyclable material is used for thermal utilization in waste incineration power plants or plants fired by substitute fuels.
