Ash for fuel

Native wood with ideal burning properties

Ash is another popular firewood variant, thanks to its outstanding quality. Ash lies in third place behind beech and oak among the most valuable native natural woods.

Ash is part of the hardwoods family and is easily split using the right technology. The resin content in ash wood is very low compared to pine and spruce wood. This leads to fewer unwanted sparks or spurting embers.

Calorific value and log lengths

What is important?
A wood product’s calorific value is determined by the residual moisture in the wood. Our kiln-dried ash firewood has a residual moisture content of under 25 per cent at its core. Similar to beech and oak, ash is characterized by its very high calorific value. The guideline is approx. 2000 KWh/rm.

Good for embers
Ash wood burns evenly and retains heat for a long time thanks to its consistent ember formation.  A beautiful display of flames is created when ash wood is burned. It is therefore ideal for fireplaces that are open or featuring viewing panels.

Cutting length
Our ash wood comes already split in the log lengths 25 cm, 30 cm and 50 cm (each +/- 3 cm). It can be purchased either in the form of fresh wood or kiln-dried logs.

Seal of quality

Only the best
We work according to the quality criteria set by the Federal Association of Fuel Wood Trade and Fuel Wood Production, and we attend the Association’s annual advanced training sessions.  Our customers enjoy the benefits of this commitment through the resultant excellent quality of our firewood!

The Federal Association prescribes the following quality guidelines: Regardless of the wood species and the degree of drying, firewood should

- Be externally dry and clean

- Be free of pests and non-definable coverings or discolouration

- Have a mixed wood content of less than 10 per cent as a pure wood species

- Have a neutral smell

- Correspond to the quantity and quality indicated by the manufacturer’s classification (e.g. invoice or order sheet)
