Wood Chips as a Replacement for Bark

As we have already reported, bottlenecks in the bark sector are currently occurring time and again and are expected to continue for some time. The situation, which has become more and more critical in recent years due to increasing bark beetle infestation, has now been further aggravated by Corona.

But we would not be Brüning if we did not present our customers an alternative here as well. To be able to supply them with material quickly, we are happy to offer sawmill chips (without bark) or trunk wood chips (with bark). These are available much faster and have similar properties compared to bark mulch.

Wood chips conserve moisture to the same extent, however, as with bark mulch, one must additionally fertilize with nitrogen in the form of e. g. horn shavings or mineral fertilizer. Thus there is no significant difference here. An advantage of wood chips, however, is that they decompose somewhat more slowly, i. e. they need to be renewed or replenished less frequently. Wood chips are also ideal for surfacing pathways – good on muddy, slushy ground, and often used at festivals, for example. If they are TÜV-certified, they serve as perfect fall protection under playground equipment. Due to their light colouring they also represent an optical alternative. However, it must be honestly said that wood chips become slightly greyish over time. Those who do not like the light colouring can also choose coloured wood chips in shades of yellow, red, brown, green or blue or black. Both wood chips and bark mulch are subject to seasonal fluctuations in price and we will of course provide you with a suitable offer.
